Adapted Multi Sports PLUS Competition given a thumbs up!
The second annual Primary Adapted Multi Sport PLUS Competition took place just before the Easter break with school children from across the Cambridge & South Cambs School Sports Partnerships taking part.
The morning was full of activity and excitement with children competing in pairs as they rotated around four different sports: Polybat, Boccia, Table Cricket and New Age Kurling. For many of the children this was their first experience of representing their school and taking part in competitive sport so the event was very much about the children having an enjoyable experience and trying out some new sports, with an element of competition added in. The points from each activity were added together to give each pair a total and determine the winners.
Forty six children aged 8-11 took part in the event which was hosted by Impington Village College who are a Youth Sport Trust lead school for Inclusion across the county. The South Cambs schools taking part included Coton, Milton, Girton Glebe, Meridian, Granta and Burrough Green.
The different sports were led and overseen by sports leaders from Cottenham VC, Chesterton Community College, St Bedes School & Impington VC after they had spent a day last term learning the inclusive sports and looking at how they could be adapted for children with different needs and abilities such as reduced physical mobility, a visual/hearing impairment or a specific learning need.
Partnership Manager, Claire McDonnell said, “It was great to see so many children taking part in an event like this for the first time, the smiles on their faces said it all and some of them were really competitive.”
After all of the activities had taken place the points were added up and the finishing positions announced with not much separating the top pairs. Congratulations to Callum & Chloe from Burrough Green Primary School, Harry & Adam from Milton Primary School and Finley, Oliver, Ethan & Tyson from Granta School who were the top 4 South Cambs pairs on the day. They will now come together to compete as a team of 8 and represent South Cambs at the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Sainsbury’s School Games Summer Festival on 30th June, we wish them the best of luck!
