County Young Coach Academy
The second County Young Coach Academy started in October 2014 with an amazing 27 young coaches taking part in the programme. These young people are the coaching workforce of the future and our aim is to provide them with the skills, knowledge & experience to become the best coaches they can.
It has been a packed programme from the start for these young coaches with their initial welcome meeting being followed by a more personal coaching seminar in November. During the beginning of December they had the opportunity to attend a Cambridge University Rugby match against Leicester Tigers. Before the match they met with the Cambridge University coach, Andy Key, to find out what his role is before such a big match and how he prepares his team. The young coaches then watched the match, Cambridge Uni didn’t have the greatest first half but, after their team talk from Andy, they won the second half. The young coaches then had the chance to speak to Andy after the match and ask him questions. They all seemed to really enjoy this experience and said they learnt a lot.
Their next workshop was the FUNdamentals of Movement Course where they learnt the principles of Agility, Balance and Co-ordination and the importance of these skills in all sports. We have more workshops booked for this year and are looking forward to continuing to work with these young coaches and hopefully see them grow in to high quality coaches of the future.
