George Segrave, a year 11 pupil at Comberton Village College and Laura Mott, previously of Swavesey Village College and now at Comberton Sixth Form were presented with trophies and certificates after shining during a three-day Talent Inspiration Programme (TIP) as part of the Sainsbury’s School Games. George (young athlete) and Laura (young team manager) were chosen out of 200 aspiring young athletes and 50 aspiring young Team Managers from across the UK for the top awards after being put forward by the School Sport Partnership.

In total eight students from local secondary schools were selected to take part in the Youth Sport Trust event which was held in Manchester and ran in parallel to the Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games. During the TIP they attended workshops, observed high level competition, and took part in a number of practical sessions designed to challenge and test their determination and hunger to achieve in sport. Parents of the athletes were also invited to participate in a workshop -specifically designed to showcase the role parents can play in supporting their child.

Georges mum Sam said, ‘Thank you so much for nominating George, he had a fantastic time and learnt a lot. Six awards were given for the following:-determination, honestly, passion, respect, self belief and teamwork. Finally, an overall athlete award for showing all of the above was awarded to George. We could not believe it, absolutely over the moon and so very proud of him. He has his certificate and his cycling top signed by Sir Bradley Wiggins with him’
