Harston & Newton Primary School successfully maintained the platinum award that they have had for the previous two years. These new awards last for two years.
A total of 34 South Cambs Schools secured a School Games Award for 2019 in recognition of their commitment to the development of Physical Education, school sport and competition across their school and into the community.
Partnership Manager, Claire McDonnell said, “We are extremely proud of all our award winners for the passion which they have shown towards the School Games and their dedication to providing opportunities for all young people to take part in physical activity and school sport.
Its great to see local schools being recognised and rewarded for their hard work and commitment to provide the very best opportunities for their pupils. With over 5,000 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our schools for their dedication to all aspects of school sport and we would like to thank all of the young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible
It is our Platinum award winning schools, Linton Heights, Harston & Newton, Swavesey, Haslingfield & Swavesey Village College though that are really leading the way.”
60% of South Cambs schools have achieved an award with Monkfield Park, Castle Camps and Pathfinder School awarded a School Games mark for the first time.
12 schools gained a silver award with Milton, Cottenham & Willingham primary schools achieving this level of recognition for the first time.
11 schools achieved Gold with many retaining this from previous years. University of Cambridge Primary and Meridian deserve special mention for gaining a gold award for the very first time. Schools achieving the Gold award demonstrate a whole school approach to PE and sport, they have the wholehearted support from their headteacher and provide opportunities for all pupils at all levels. As well as this they are a community hub for sport, encouraging involvement from parents and community groups.
The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme where schools can gain a bronze, silver, gold or platinum level award. The following schools in South Cambs have achieved an award in 2019 and will be presented with their certificates and awards in the coming weeks, congratulations to all of them on their hard work and excellent provision.
