The top four primary schools from South Cambs came together for the SSP Year 3/4 Tennis Finals night on Monday 12th June at Comberton Village College.

The teams of two boys and two girls from Swavesey, Haslingfield, Linton Heights & Harston & Newton made it to the finals as the top teams from the qualification rounds played before half term. All four teams had done extremely well to make it to the finals in a competition involving over 30 teams.

As defending county champions Haslingfield went into the competition as favourites alongside Harston & Newton who had won the qualification round at Melbourn VC the previous month. Swavesey had qualified for the finals for the first time.

The finals were played in a round robin format with each team playing the other three in timed singles matches. As expected the matches were extremely competitive with a great standard of tennis on display and some really close scores.

The final round of matches were tense with 3 teams still in with a chance of claiming the title of SSP Champions. Harston & Newton could only manage a 2-2 draw with Swavesey which meant they finished with 7 singles wins compared to the Swavesey teams 8 wins. This earnt Swavesey the winners shield for the first time as Harston & Newton finished as runners up for the second year running.
