Swavesey take the 2026 netball finals by storm!
The end of our 2026 netball leagues finished last week in the sunshine after the A Team Plate finals at Northstowe Secondary College . The finals are the culmination of a year round league which is hosted at 6 secondary school venues across South Cambs with Round 1 matches in October and Round 2 in March. The recent finals involved 38 teams from 29 different schools with over 300 pupils playing netball with all matches umpired by a team of 40 sports leaders from the partnerships Leadership Academy programme.
B Team Finals
The first of the finals nights was for all of the B teams who had played in their local leagues. This final took place at Impington Village College with 16 teams competing against each other. After the first round of matches the teams were organised into different divisions for the finals. In the top division were Swavesey, Histon Brook, Histon Park and Pendragon. The standard of netball across all of the courts was excellent and the feedback from the event was very positive from all who took part. After a round of competitive and close matches, Swavesey Primary School took the overall B team title and finished the afternoon unbeaten with 5 wins and 1 draw. Pendragon were well deserved runners up. The overall finishing positions from all schools from the B tournament were:
| 1st Swavesey | 5th Barton | 9th Jeavons Wood | 13th Coton |
| 2nd Pendragon | 6th Willingham | 10th The Vine | 14th Bar Hill |
| 3rd = Histon Brook | 7th Haslingfield | 11th Milton | 15th Meridian |
| 3rd = Histon Park | 8th Trumpington | 12th Linton | 16th Hardwick |
A Team Plate Finals
The A team finals are split into two competitions the Plate and the Shield. The Plate is for all of the A teams who finished in the bottom half of their local league. Played at Northstowe Secondary College this featured 8 teams. All of the teams played each other in a round robin format and despite the hot weather the level of netball from all courts was excellent. The sports leaders from Northstowe umpired all the matches using the skills they have developed from being part of the leadership academy. After a display of excellent netball across all of the courts the overall winners were Haslingfield, closely followed by Bar Hill and Thriplow with both teams finishing only 2 points behind the winners. Bar Hill took home the runners up medals though courtesy of a better goal difference than Thriplow who finished 3rd. Well done to all schools who took part. The final plate positions were:
| 1st Haslingfield |
| 2nd Bar Hill |
| 3rd Thriplow |
| 4th Hardwick |
| 5th Barnabas Oley |
| 6th Harston & Newton |
| 7th Girton Glebe |
| 8th Jeavons Wood |
A Team Shield finals
Fourteen primary schools competed in the A Team Shield which was held at Comberton Village College after finishing in the top half of their local leagues. The top four teams from this competition qualify for the Bee Netball County Finals which are taking place on Tues 9th June.
The schools were split into two pools of seven teams, with each team playing all of their rivals within that group in a round robin format. The standard of netball across all of the teams was exceptionally high and it was great to see the level of improvement from all teams across the rounds, especially with their shooting accuracy. After the round robin each team played a play off match against the team finishing in the same position in the opposite pool. The teams from Swavesey and Histon and Impington Brook won all of their group matches to qualify for the final whilst Gt Abington and Trumpington Park finished as group runners up and went into the 3rd/4th placed play off.
The final was extremely competitive with end-to-end play but the accurate shooting of Swavesey Primary School saw them win 6-3 and claim the title as South Cambs Champions 2026 with last year’s winners Histon Brook finishing as runners up. Both teams now qualify for the County finals alongside 3rd placed Trumpington Park and 4th placed Gt Abington. We wish them the best of luck.
The full results from the competition were:
| 1st Swavesey | 5th = Pendragon | 9th= Gamlingay | 13th Willingham |
