Summer Virtual School Games – Thursday 25th June
Many of you will know that this Thursday would have seen the culmination of the School Games competitions this year with the Summer Festival at St Ives. Unfortunately, like everything else, this is not happening in its usual format, but it doesn’t mean you have to miss out…………
Due to the Success of the Spring Virtual School Games Living Sport are back with their Summer Virtual Games!
How it will work:
Every hour a new challenge will be released by the team at Living Sport. Everyone will have one hour to complete the challenge and send in their entries via social media or email. (Twitter @living_sport @cambspborosg #YourSchoolGames, Email- schoolgames@livingsport.co.uk). The social media feed will be monitored and 10 points awarded for each completed challenge. Extra points will be awarded to creativity and mass participation!
However, we all understand that the situation is different in each school at the moment and due to space, number of children and social bubbles, schools may not be able to participate on the day. This is why the full timetable is being made available in advance (see below) so it is possible for you to complete challenges before the day of the event if you wish.
Paralympian Sam Ruddock is supporting the games, here is his video message encouraging children to get involved in the activities on the day.
The timings of the day will be as follows:
- 9:30am – Video from Athlete Mentor, welcoming everyone to the Virtual School Games
- 10am-11am – Opening Ceremony – Do a ‘Tik Tok’ style dance
- 11am – 12pm – Cricket – Clap Catch – throw a ball or an object up in the air and whilst the object is in the air see how many claps you can do! Then catch the object before it hits the floor!
- 12pm – 1pm – Daily Mile – Get everyone outside and run a mile (Keeping to social distancing guidelines!)
- 1pm – 2pm – Athletics – Hurdles – using toys, cereal boxes, cushions to create a hurdles – make a hurdles course and try it out!
- 2pm – 3pm – Hockey – Obstacle Course – get creative using everything and anything you can find to create an obstacle course, then you need to move an object (sock, ball) using some kind of stick (Tennis Racket, Cricket Bat, Hockey Stick, Kitchen Roll cardboard).
- Closing Ceremony – Video from Athlete Mentor thanking everyone
There will be extra points awarded for demonstrating the Spirit of the Games values so get creative and have a little think about how you can include the 6 values!
- Determination
- Passion
- Respect
- Honesty
- Self-belief
- Teamwork
There will also be a score board that will be updated throughout the day, the overall scores will be released on Friday 26th June.
Safety
Throughout the Virtual Games it is the schools responsibility to keep the children safe, we wish this to be accessible to every child in school and it is up to the teachers how you adapt and participate safely. This includes those pupils with no photographic consent, please only upload videos and photos where you have consent for pupils.
Good Luck to all the schools, have fun and we can’t wait to see how you have all got involved!!
